Hypnotherapy for Depression
Depression is not just being in a state of serious emotional suffering, it is actually a very complex mental health condition with many sides to it. However, with the help of professional hypnotherapy you can break the cycle and begin to live a full of emotional balance.
Overcoming Depression with Hypnotherapy
It’s common for almost everyone in life to have periods where we feel low for whatever reason. For most people this feeling passes quickly and we return to our usual selves. However, for some people this low mood persists and begins to affect everyday life, becoming a consistent negative which impacts their ability to function on a daily basis.
When this happens, a person is described as been in a state of depression and it is advised to seek professional help. Hypnotherapy is just one approach which can help people to break the cycle of depression and return to their normal selves.
There are different forms of depression, the most common of which include:
- Clinical depression
- Depressive episode
- Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
- Recurrent depressive disorder
- Reactive depression
- Cyclothymia
- Manic depression
- Psychotic depression
- Prenatal or postnatal depression
- Dysthymia
What are the Signs and Symptoms of Depression?
There are a number of different signs and symptoms which can point to depression. You may not have all of them, but it’s important to see a doctor if you’re experiencing symptoms for the majority of the day, for over two weeks.
Common signs of depression can include:
- Low mood, feeling sad and/or angry
- Low energy levels
- Increased anxiety and worry
- A loss of interest or enjoyment in activities you used to enjoy taking part in
- Isolating from friends and family
- Feeling tired more easily
- Difficulty concentrating
- Low self-confidence
- A change in sleeping habits, difficulty sleeping or sleeping more than usual
- A change in eating habits, eating more or eating less than usual
- Feeling guilty or that you're worthless
You may find you’re easily irritated or have a sense of being numb to everything. Talking to someone about how you feel is the first step and the best way to start the journey of recovery and returning to your usual self.

Hypnotherapy for Depression
Hypnotherapy is a treatment approach for depression which works on a subconscious level. Rather than treat the symptoms of depression, hypnotherapy aims to tackle the triggers that lead to your depression so you can unpick them and move on.
Hypnotherapy works by encouraging you to fall into a deeply relaxed state sometimes referred to as a hypnotic trance. When you are in this state, your subconscious is more open to suggestion.
This is where a hypnotherapist can identify the root cause of your depression and using a range of suggestion techniques to complete the ‘unfinished business’ that otherwise continues to recycle as self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours.
With hypnotherapy, you can go down deeper into your past traumatic experiences, memories and stored emotions, which means they can be quickly released them from the mind and body.
The process of hypnotherapy itself is very relaxing and can help with low energy, and sleeping difficulties, helping you to feel more like your usual self.
